How does AI identify an object - by its shape, colour, smell? 

AI identifies and can group objects by understanding its features or characteristics. A shape can be categorised by the number of sides, for example, three sides to a triangle and four equal sides to a square. AI understands these shape characteristics in the same way that we humans can recognise shapes - through learning by seeing multiple examples and putting a label to that shape.
